Report: Buffalo could be looking to sell Tyler Ennis at trade deadline

The Buffalo Sabres added several key pieces to their team ahead of the 2015-16 season in forwards Evander Kane, Ryan O'Reilly and Jack Eichel as well as trading for goaltender Robin Lehner, but Buffalo's makeover is far from complete. With the team still sitting at the bottom of the NHL standings, it is no surprise that the Sabres are looking to sell at the trade deadline.

But the names of those available are a little more interesting. According to NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun, Buffalo might be fielding interest in long-time Sabre Tyler Ennis.

Pending unrestricted free agents will be in play, topped by the likes of winger Jamie McGinn, who could have value to a contender. Defenseman Mike Weber is a pending UFA who can add depth and toughness to a contending lineup....

But the biggest name I’ve heard from other teams that the Sabres would listen on is Tyler Ennis, who still has three more seasons left on his contract at a $4.6 million salary-cap hit.

Ennis, a 26-year-old center, has played the entirety of his seven-year NHL career with Sabres after Buffalo selected Ennis with the 26th overall pick of the 2008 NHL Draft. Ennis is a three-time 40-plus point-scorer, and he has 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in 23 games this season.

This year has been rough for the center, as he missed 12 games earlier in the season with an upper-body injury and was able to return for four games at the end of December before he was back on the shelf again due to an upper-body injury. He has not played a game since Dec. 30.
