Red Wings Danny DeKeyser scores on Ben Bishop from center ice (Video)
Red Wings defenseman Danny DeKeyser scored from center ice against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
While the Detroit Red Wings are licking their chops following a 6-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, they still have some positives from the game. Danny DeKeyser certainly has one after scoring a goal from center ice with just over two minutes remaining. He was the beneficiary of a very generous bounce that found its way past Lightning goalie Ben Bishop.
DeKeyser tries to dump the puck in so the Red Wings forecheck can get something going. It turns out DeKeyser didn’t do what he planned to do. He was likely planning to get the puck behind the net for Darren Helm, streaking down the right side. However, the net result is a goal. Hockey is a really weird game filled with really weird bounces. DeKeyser will likely have a few bad bounces go his way after such a generous bounce, because that’s how hockey works.
This goal is on Bishop because he wasn’t ready to stop DeKeyser’s shot, which bounced off the boards. However, in his defense, did anyone think DeKeyer’s dump in would end up in the back of the net when they saw it go down the left side? Probably not. Let this serve as a lesson to goaltenders. Always keep your eye on the puck and stay on your toes.
Even with DeKeyser’s miracle goal, the Red Wings still lost 6-4. Their defense is an obvious issue and they knew this going into the season. If they want their playoff streak to continue, they must play better defensively. They also should probably not count on DeKeyser (or any of their players) scoring ridiculous goals like this. Detroit will play the Florida Panthers on the road on Saturday, hoping to bounce back from the loss.
