Rangers to attend funeral of St. Louis' mother after Game 1 vs. Montreal
Head coach Alain Vigneault said Thursday that the entire Rangers team will go to the funeral of New York forward Martin St. Louis’ mother on Sunday, the Rangers posted on Twitter.
France St. Louis, who was 63, died last week of a heart attack. The funeral will take place in Montreal.
After learning of his mother’s passing, St. Louis returned home to Montreal. He flew back to Pittsburgh to play in Game 5 (a 5-1 Rangers' win) of the second round series. On Mother’s Day, and with his father and sister in attendance, he netted the opening goal in New York’s 3-1 victory in Game 6. After the game, he addressed his teammates:
“Everybody pushed tonight. I can’t pick one guy," said St. Louis, handing out the team's game hat. "I’ve got to give it to the whole team. You guys have been nothing but unbelievable for me these past couple days, and I’ll never forget that.”
St. Louis shared his thoughts on the series of events following Game 7:
#NYR asked NHL if sked could be changed for planned St. Louis funeral Saturday. League declined to accomodate. Family switched days.
