Ouch: Phaneuf delivers punishing hit to Sabres prospect
Buffalo defenseman Brendan Guhle is just an 18-year-old getting his feet wet in the NHL this season, and taking the ice against Dion Phaneuf Tuesday provided Guhle with a hard lesson about physicality in the professional ranks.
Phaneuf, who has been known for his tough hits, didn't let up on the rookie when he had a chance to make contact midway through the second period.
Although Guhle was shaken up on the play and had to leave the game, Phaneuf's hit was clean and there was no penalty called. Guhle has a shot at making the Buffalo roster this season, but his chances might suffer lasting effects from the hit, as he was not on the ice for the Sabres the morning after the hit.
Welcome to the NHL.
