Ottawa Senators win back to back games

The Ottawa Senators have win back to back games with an impressive 6-2 win over the New York Islanders. The struggling Islanders have now lost 5 straight.

The Ottawa Senators struck first after a Kyle Turris shot hit off Bobby Ryan for the first goal of the contest. Ryan is now on a four game point streak with 3 goals in the last three games. Ryan Dzingel also joins Ryan on a four game point streak.

Andrew Hammond left the game with only 3:55 left in the first period after twisting his ankle. Mike Condon would relieve the injured Hammond.

Zack Smith tipped in his first goal of the game off a Mark Stone blast from the point.

The New York Islanders would strike twice within the first six minutes of the second period to tie the game at two apiece.

The Senators would get one back with five minutes left in the 2nd period after Mark Stone banged in a rebound off a Erik Karlsson point shot that would be the Senators only  power play goal.

The Ottawa Senators would dominate the third period scoring three unanswered goals from Derrick Brassard, Zack Smith with a shorthanded empty net goal and Tom Pyatt would add insult to injury with another empty netter.

Zack Smith with 5 points in his last 2 games has filled in wonderfully for the suspended Mike Hoffman who will return Tuesday night in Chicago.

Erik Karlsson has continued his scoring prowess with 3G 8A 11PTS in his last 9 games.

Cody Ceci led the Senators in total ice time playing 24:21 with 5:09 coming shorthanded.

The Senators were perfect killing all four of the Islanders power plays. The Senators would go 1/2 on their power plays

The Senators move 2 points ahead of the Boston Bruins for second in the Atlantic Division with a game in hand.
