Oilers sign veteran Ryan Smyth to 2-year contract

Ryan Smyth will have a chance to finish his career with the Edmonton Oilers.

The veteran forward signed a $4.5-million, two-year contract with the Oilers just before free agency opened Sunday.

Smyth played all 82 games for Edmonton last season, scoring 19 goals and 46 points.

The 36-year-old was the sixth overall pick by the Oilers in 1994 and has spent 12 of his 16 NHL seasons with the team.

In 1,151 career games, Smyth has 374 goals and 806 points.
