NHL Rumor: Panthers and Maple Leafs Have Proposed Deal on Table

NHL Rumor: The Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers Apparently Have a Deal on the Table That Could Work for Both Sides.

The NHL Rumor is that Toronto and Florida have proposed a deal, and somehow it was leaked. These are the details. Florida is willing to move defenseman Mark Pysyk for Leafs defenseman Connor Carrick, Kerby Rychel along with a 2018 second round draft pick. Now to me anyways, the addition of the second round pick may be too much. Rychel is a fantastic player with a ton of potential upside as well as Carrick. While Pysyk has already laid out his foundation as a fifth or sixth defenseman. But let's break down the players.

More from Puck Prose

Connor Carrick is 23 years old and has a contract that expires next season, he's played 120 NHL games so far scoring 18 points, his AHL numbers are much better. In 125 career AHL games, Carrick has managed to tally 75 points. Carrick isn't that far from cementing himself as an NHL regular and where his potential will take him is unknown, which is the trickiest part of making a trade.

Kerby Rychel has been a solid a prospect in the AHL system, the former 1st round draft pick is currently 22 years old. And in 37 career NHL games, Rychel has posted 12 career points. But in the AHL is where he's really shined. In 161 career AHL games so far, Rychel as managed to tally 112 points between Springfield, Lake Erie, and Toronto.

Mark Pysyk is going to become a free agent and at 25, has played 207 NHL games. In those games, Mark has put up 43 points, with last year's output of 17 being a career high. Also in 145 career AHL games, Mark scored 47 points all with Rochester while he was with the Buffalo Sabres organization.

Now Pysyk for Carrick and Rychel is a solid deal, but once the second round pick is thrown in it puts the deal more in Florida's favor when trades are meant to be even, but we all know that's not always the case until years later.
