Bishop Gives Kings Insurance Following Trade

As Lisa Dillman over at NHL.com explains, the acquisition of Ben Bishop helps gives the Los Angeles Kings a ton of insurance heading into the postseason. For the relatively low cost of Peter Budaj, Erik Cernak, and a draft pick, it's a pretty good score for GM Dean Lombardi. [NHL.com]

    Avalanche Overvaluing Their Players?

Ross Sellers over at Mile High Sticking wrote an interesting piece. As he explains, while there's nothing wrong with demanding a premium for studs for Matt Duchene or Gabriel Landeskog, he hopes the same isn't being done for other guys. As Ross points out, if Sakic is overvaluing guys like Jarome Iginla and Blake Comeau, it may speak to a bigger issue all around in the way this franchise is being run. [Mile High Sticking]

    Wild Acquire Hanzal, White

The Minnesota Wild acquired forwards Martin Hanzal and Ryan White along with a draft pick in exchange for a 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, 4th round pick, and prospect Grayson Downing. [NHL.com]

    Scandella Deal Possible

As Danny Lambert over at Gone Puck Wild explains, a last-minute deal for Marco Scandella is still entirely possible. Fact is, Minnesota promises to lose the quality blueliner for nothing in the expansion if he isn't dealt. [Gone Puck Wild]

    Community College Player Facing Charges

If you haven't seen the incident yet, you can see it on the link provided so SI. NJCAA community college player Brandon Day is facing charges after a recent on-ice incident where he came out of the penalty box and leveled a referee. Tempers flare in a hockey game, but we never like to see things escalate to this level. [SI.com]

    Revisiting Bruins-Stars Deal for Seguin

Brandon Share Cohen over at Causeway Crowd wrote a lengthy but very interesting piece looking back at the Boston Bruins-Dallas Stars deal that saw Tyler Seguin head to the Lone Star State. It's interesting to get different perspectives on both sides of a deal, especially after the fact when it becomes a lopsided deal for one club. [Causeway Crowd]

    NHL Daily Morning Rant

Minnesota acquiring Martin Hanzal is a very interesting trade. Give management full credit, they saw an opportunity to compete and made a big rental addition. Even better, it leaves the Wild with four lines that can score – almost reminiscent of those Cup-winning Kings teams. If I had the guess, the lines might look a little something like this:

    Nino NiederreiterEric StaalCharlie Coyle
    Jason ZuckerMikko KoivuMikael Granlund
Zach Parise – Martin Hanzal – Jason Pominville
Chris StewartErik Haula – Ryan White
