New York Islanders Plummet in Week 4 NHL Power Rankings
Bleacher Report has released their Week 4 NHL Power Rankings. How did the New York Islanders rank in the most recent rankings?
It has not been a good season so far for the New York Islanders, and it was a tough week. With three games this past week, the Islanders went 1-2 with losses to the Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins prior to a win against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The losses to the Canadiens and Penguins weren’t poor games for the Islanders, but they have hard a time winning close games this season. While the Islanders now have a 4-5 record, they might be seeing a change in net.
In recent days, Jaroslav Halak’s agent has come out and voiced his displeasure about the Islanders using three goalies. Since then, Halak has been made available according to multiple sources.

In three of the past four games, it has been Thomas Greiss starting as the goalie for the Islanders. In his last three starts, Greiss is 2-1 compared to Halak who is 1-2 in his last three games. Greiss proved in the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season that he can be a starting goalie in the NHL. In the first round series against the Florida Panthers, Greiss had some amazing individual efforts to help the Islanders advance.
With Jean-Francois Berube as the third goalie, the Islanders might be willing to move Halak rather quickly. Partially due to the goalie situation, the Islanders were ranked 27th in Bleacher Report’s Week 4 NHL Power Rankings. This is a considerable drop for the Islanders, who were ranked 19th last week.
This coming week will be a good opportunity for the Islanders to get some points with three games at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Philadelphia Flyers, and the Edmonton Oilers. Expect to see a lot more of Greiss in the net for the Islanders, and also possibly the first start of the season for Berube.
