New York Islanders Halak and Greiss vs. North American: Live Stream

New York Islanders goaltenders Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Greiss take to the ice against Team North America in the third game in World Cup of Hockey pre-tournament.

Both made up teams take the ice on September 8th in Québec City, Canada. The relevance for New York Islanders fans is over who gets the crease between either Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Greiss.

These are pre-tournament or exhibition games leading up to the actual tournament that starts on September 17th in Toronto, Canada. So, ultimately this game is nothing but a dressage to the main event.

But still, is Halak fully recovered from that season ending injury he sustained back in March? Or did Greiss play so well for both the Isles and for Team Germany at the World Championships in Russia that he earns the start?

It’s going to see how it plays out. In our pre-game warm up this morning, we believed that both Halak and Greiss will split the starts. With each getting a start in the first two games, and the starter for the tournament likely named by the third game against Team Sweden on the 14th.

The European coaching staff will want to see exactly what type of game readiness either goaltenders are in. Is Halak fully recovered and is Griess worn out from playing more hockey in the last few months then he’s done in his career? (that might be a tad over-exaggerated)

Depending who gets the call for the actual tournament could be a hint as to who might actually get the start for the Isles.

Of course, it’s no guarantee that whoever gets the crease for Team Europe during the tournament gets the starter job for the Islanders job. But seeing as how this tournament is essentially training camp the Isles will be looking at both to guide their decision.
