The New York Islanders have four players participating in the World Cup of hockey which starts for real today. Here’s a preview for the guys participating.
John Tavares had three goals in the three pre-tournament games for Team Canada. Canada has a game at 8:00pm tonight against Czech Republic. Canada is a clear favorite, and with the help of Tavares and their cast of all-stars they are expected to dominate.
Thomas Greiss and Jaroslav Halak are both playing for Team Europe who get started today against Team USA. Halak was named the starter as he’s outplayed his Islanders teammate. This can have implications on the battle for Isles starter.

Nikolai Kulemin and Team Russia get started on Sunday against Sweden. Russia struggled in the pre-tournament action as did Kulemin. He didn’t record a point, but as we’ve seen with the Islanders he isn’t racking up points.
