Nashville Predators to Name Mike Fisher Captain- Report
The Nashville Predators have selected the fan favorite veteran as the new team Captain.
The Nashville Predators have had word leak ahead of Thursday’s official press conference which was meant to announce the new team Captain. Adam Vingan of The Tennessean reports that Mike Fisher will be the named Captain of the team.

Citing a “team source” Vingan got early word from inside the Nashville Predators organization. Assuming the source is reliable, Mike Fisher will be the 6th full-time captain of the franchise. This leak surely takes the wind out the sails of the planned 12:30pm announcement.
I would be rather paranoid if I was the inside source on this one… The PR team can’t be too happy.
Mike Fisher takes the proverbial captain’s torch from Shea Weber after the 6-year captain was traded for PK Subban earlier this summer. Mike Fisher 36, has one more year on his 2-year $8.8 million contract.

The Nashville Predators made the obvious move here. In a teleconference with Montreal media this summer, Shea Weber was asked about the then vacant captaincy.
“They’ll make the right decision. I think they know who it should be. I’ve spent enough time around that group that I think I know.” said Weber. We can only assume he was referring to Mike Fisher.
Mike Fisher was considered a leader before he was even traded to the Nashville Predators in 2011. Now at 36-years-old, and on an extremely young team, Fisher can be a calming voice when times inevitably get hard. This past season he played his 1000th career game. Moreover, he has been to a Stanley Cup Final in 2007. Much of the Nashville Predators new core has only played a handful of playoff games, and most are just coming off of their entry-level contract.

Mike Fisher will likely be Captain of the Nashville Predators until he retires- which many believe could be after this season. A decrease in scoring last season has put the end of his career in sight. Mike Fisher only tallied 23 points after scoring 39 points in 59 games in 14-15… per the Predators official site.
However, no fan will forget his triple overtime goal last off-season and Pete Weber’s now famous “Go-Ape” radio-call.
While nothing is certain, we will likely be looking for a new captain at some point over the next two summers. Many believe Roman Josi is the heir-apparent, but I would not over-look the charisma PK Subban may have on the team.
Until then, Congratulations Mike. Time to lace up and lead this team into the 2016-17 season.
