Morin, Gostisbehere looking to make impression with Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers have a promising group of young defensemen working its way to the NHL, although which player emerges is anyone's guess.

Although the team selected highly touted blue-liner Ivan Provorov with the seventh overall pick of the 2015 draft, Sam Morin and Shayne Gostisbehere could be in the lead to see time in Philadelphia this season.

"The goal is to make the team this year," the 20-year-old Morin told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "... Last year, I was one of the last cuts, so I think I have a good chance."

Listed at 6-foot-6 at 228 pounds, Morin has added 23 pounds to his frame since being selected with the 11th overall pick of the 2013 draft.

Gostisbehere is significantly smaller at 5-foot-11, 160 pounds, but the 22-year-old played in two games with the Flyers last season after working his way back from an ACL injury in his left knee.

"We have a balance of veterans and young guys, and it's pretty cool to see," Gostisbehere said of the new crop on defense, which also includes Travis Sanheim, Mark Alt and Robert Hagg. "It's going to be a lot of fun with a young 'D' corps back there."
