Montreal Canadiens Defeat Philadelphia Flyers To Win Fourth In a Row

The Montreal Canadiens won their fourth straight game and have now gone six straight without a regulation loss to begin the season.

The Montreal Canadiens took down the Philadelphia Flyers with a 3-1 win on Monday night. The Canadiens extend their winning streak to four games and improve their record to 5-0-1 on the season.

It took the Canadiens ten games to taste their first regulation time victory a year ago. They have now made it through six contests, with a shootout loss to the Ottawa Senators the only slip-up thus far.

Montreal and Philadelphia skated to a scoreless draw in the opening period of tonight’s game. Goaltender’s Carey Price and Steve Mason were hardly tested as the two teams seemed to be feeling each other out a bit in their first meeting of the season.

Shea Weber opened the scoring 5:28 into the second period. His blast from the blue line went right through Brayden Schenn’s stick and found its way into the back of the net. It was Weber’s second goal of the season and was assisted by Alex Radulov and Artturi Lehkonen.

Flyers winger Jakub Voracek tied the game six minutes later. Captain Claude Giroux fired a wrist shot from the point and Voracek got a stick on it in front. The redirection fooled Price and led to a 1-1 game heading into the third period.

The Canadiens took the lead late in the final frame when Brendan Gallagher found the back of the net. It was, of course, a screen and tip by the pesky winger. Radulov had fired a shot from the point, where he is playing on the power play. Gallagher got a stick on it in front, and now has his fourth goal of the season. It was assisted by Radulov and Weber.

Radulov finished off the scoring when he found an empty net with just over one minute to play. The goal was Radulov’s second of the season and Alexei Emelin was awarded an assist after flipping the puck out of his zone and finding Radulov.

The Canadiens next game will be against the New York Islanders on Wednesday night.
