Maple Leafs, Red Wings unveil special Centennial Classic jerseys
Instead of the usual New Year's Day Winter Classic, the NHL will welcome a new calendar year with a Centennial Classic in 2017. The game will feature two Original Six teams -- the Maple Leafs and Red Wings -- playing outdoors at Toronto's BMO Field in celebration of the league's centennial year.
On Monday, both the Leafs and Wings revealed the special jerseys that they'll be wearing for the occasion.
Toronto's sweater features their new logo surrounded by a thick, single white stripe that wraps around the jersey. The words "Honour. Pride. Courage" are featured inside the neck line of the uniform.
Detroit's jersey also features the team's regular logo but with different striping than their typical look. The Wings will have a triple red stripe on each sleeve, as well as a silver stripe that highlights the franchise's Stanley Cup titles.
It's tough to fully gauge a uniform until seeing it in action, but I would give an edge to the Red Wings in this jersey battle just because I'm not a fan of Toronto going white-on-white with the logo and stripe across the sweater.
