Lightning sign Calder Trophy finalist Palat to three-year extension

The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed forward Ondrej Palat, the team announced Monday.

Palat, a finalist for the Calder Trophy awarded annually to the league's top rookie, signed a three-year contract, team vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman said. The agreement reportedly is worth $10 million.

The 23-year-old played in 81 games this season, scoring 23 goals and compiling 59 points. He was then named a finalist for the Calder, the winner of which will be announced June 24 in Las Vegas.

Palat was second in points among NHL rookie and third in goals.

Overall, he has played in 95 NHL games, all with the Lightning, over the past two seasons. He played in three playoff games this season, scoring two goals.

Palat also played for his native Czech Republic at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. He was originally selected by the Lightning in the seventh round, 208th overall, at the 2011 NHL Draft.
