Leafs place Jonathan Bernier on IR, give James Reimer chance to grab starting job

Jonathan Bernier finally saw his status updated, but it probably was not the status update the Leafs and him wanted to see. The team placed Bernier on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 31 with a lower-body injury, meaning Bernier will be ineligible to play in Friday's game against the Red Wings or Saturday's game against the Capitals.

James Reimer will see more time in net, and that's bad news for Bernier since Reimer has played well enough to earn both of the team's wins this season and therefore could get a leg up on the starting job. Reimer looked strong in two games so far this week, stopping 43 of 44 shots in a win on Monday against the Stars and making 30 saves on 33 shots in a loss to the Jets on Wednesday.

Bernier is 0-6-1 this season with a .899 save percentage. He has allowed 11 goals against in his last three games.
