Kings agree with coach Darryl Sutter on new multiyear deal

LOS ANGELES (AP) The Los Angeles Kings and coach Darryl Sutter have agreed to the terms of a new contract.

The team announced the new multiyear deal Friday though it didn't offer details beyond saying that it begins with the upcoming season.

General manager Dean Lombardi had said last week that the Kings had offered Sutter a deal that was ''very fair'' to the two-time Stanley Cup champion coach.

Sutter is 186-112-45 in the regular season since being hired by the Kings in December 2011.

Los Angeles won the title in 2012 and 2014, but missed the playoffs last season. The Kings rebounded strongly and led the Pacific Division for most of this season, but finished one point out of first place before getting routed in five games by San Jose in the first round of the playoffs.
