Kings 6, Avalanche 0

Anze Kopitar scored three goals in the Los Angeles Kings' 6-0 victory over the Colorado Avalanche in a preseason game Wednesday night.

Two of Kopitar's goals came in the second period. Slava Voynov and former Avalanche player Brad Richardson also scored in the second period for Los Angeles (2-1-2).

Jonathan Quick stopped 27 shots including a breakaway by Chuck Kobasew early in the game to even his record at 1-1 in the preseason. Quick had six shutouts in the regular season a year ago.

Colorado goalie Semyon Varlamov, an offseason acquisition from Washington, allowed four goals on 14 shots in the second period. Colorado (1-3-0) was 0 for 6 on the power play.

Outshot 11-7 in the first period, Los Angeles cashed in on two power plays to make it 2-0.

Kopitar got his first goal of the preseason on a wrist shot from just above the right circle at 5:51 of the second period. Midway through the period, Jack Johnson set up Voynov's slap shot from the left point with Ryan Wilson off for interference.

Varlamov stopped a shot by Justin Williams. Kopitar grabbed the rebound and sent it into the net for his second goal of the game with 3:53 left in the period.

Moments later Richardson made it 4-0.

Williams made it 5-0 57 seconds into the third period. Kopitar, a 25-goal scorer in 2010-2011, got his third goal of the game at 9:19.

Quick made two acrobatic saves in the last 5:28 of the third period with Dwight King serving a double minor.
