Jack Eichel blasts shot through net at Sabres development camp

Buffalo Sabres fans got a small taste of what Jack Eichel has to offer last week at development camp, as the 18-year-old prospect showcased some of his unique scoring talents in scrimmages and practices against his future teammates.

On Sunday, Eichel capped off the week by blasting a wrister through the net. That's right. The netting can't hold up to Eichel's wrist shot, never mind his slap shot.

Eichel did not take full credit for the shot in his press conference later that day.

"I think the netting was a little bit loose," Eichel said

When he wasn't shooting pucks through the net, the phenom attracted quite a bit of attention throughout the week.  More than 17,000 fans showed up to a Friday night scrimmage to see the Sabres' first-round draft pick, and thousands showed up to 3-on-3 scrimmages and skates over the course of the week.

It was front-page news when Eichel announced Friday that he would wear No. 15 should he make the team.

"I had a few numbers that I had in mind," Eichel told Sabres.com. "I didn’t really want to pick one because I didn’t want to make it seem like I was content on already making the team. It’s a number that my sister’s worn and my dad’s worn and I’ve worn before. It’s their lucky number and it happens to be the year I got drafted. I like the number and I think it would be really nice to wear it if the opportunity presents itself to be on the Sabres next year."

If Eichel keeps playing the way he did for most of the Sabres development camp, he should not have a problem cracking the roster. After all, he beat almost every player on this goal from development camp. That has to count for something.
