Islanders' Martin on alternate jerseys: 'We look meaner'
The New York Islanders heard plenty of criticism when they initially unveiled their new alternate third jerseys, but at least one member of the club enjoys the black-and-white ensemble.
"I like 'em. We look meaner," fourth-line forward Matt Martin told Arthur Staple of Newsday.
Martin played a role in the eventual winning goal on Tuesday, as he tipped defenseman Brian Strait's shot before Casey Cizikas jammed home the rebound with 2:12 remaining in the third period in the Islanders' 2-1 triumph over the Metropolitan Division-rival New Jersey Devils.
New York will wear the Brooklyn-themed alternate uniforms on 11 more occasions at home this season.
The black sweater with a white "NY" logo on the chest has become fashionable by celebrities - including actress Chloe Grace Moretz and model Christie Brinkley, just to name two.
