Islanders' fans sound off on new goal horn

Fans of the New York Islanders are always happy to see the home team score a goal.

Listening to the obnoxious horn that follows, however? Well, that's hardly music to their ears.

The sound in question was debuted at the Barclays Center on Monday after New York forward Kirill Petrov scored with 1:51 remaining in the third period in a 3-1 preseason setback to the Washington Capitals.

Fans flooded social media with critical comments on the horn, which Barclays Center's official Twitter account noted was a joint effort with Metropolitan Transit Authority in a bid to pay homage to the Long Island Rail Road.

Several of the team's fans respectfully - and in some cases, not-so-respectfully - disagreed, with more than one reference to Jim Carrey's character Lloyd Christmas asking Jeff Daniels (Harry Dunne) if he wanted to hear "the most annoying sound in the world?"
