Islanders Completely Outmatched By The Lightning (Highlights)
The Islanders came out completely flat as it was over after one period. The Islanders lost by a score of 6-1.
It was a disaster, an embarrassment and an all around poor effort from the Islanders tonight. They didn’t hang in the game for long as by the end of the first period it was already over. Due to a hit from Calvin de Haan the Islanders would spend much of the early portion of the game on the penalty kill.
Nikita Kucherov got the Lightning on the board just 3:21 into the period. Shortly after Steven Stamkos scored, but it would go to a review and they ruled the play offside.

The Lightning weren’t done, they would add one more before the end of the period. It was Stamkos at even strength. At that the Islanders pulled Thomas Greiss for Jaroslav Halak. To be fair Greiss was not the issue, but nonetheless Jaro entered.
The second period was more of the same. Brian Boyle, J.T. Brown and Valtteri Filppula added goals to make it six unanswered goals by the Bolts. It took 19:30 into the second period for the Islanders to get on the board. The big free agent signing Dennis Seidenberg with his third goal of the year.

Thankfully for the Islanders the Lightning did not add another goal.
The final score would be 6-1. What an utterly embarrassing performance from the Islanders tonight.
They looked completely flat from the start of the game and never were able to get into a grove. That has to fall on the coach. Is Jack Capuano on the hot seat? Probably not, but he should be.
