Guy voted All-Star captain by fans demoted to minors by his team

The NHL has made no secret of its willingness to tinker with the format of its All-Star Game. But this is a twist no one saw coming.

Arizona forward John Scott, voted by fans to captain the Pacific Division in the Jan. 21 All-Star Game in Nashville, Tennessee, was on Wednesday demoted to the minors.

Yup, the guy voted to CAPTAIN an All-Star team is now a member of the AHL’s Springfield Falcons. But if you’re concerned about the chemistry of the Pacific Division All-Star team, fear not … aware that a player not on an NHL roster at the time of the All-Star break cannot play in the showcase game, Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett says Scott will be back with the big club in the “next day or so.”

Apparently this has been in the works at quite some time; the Coyotes placed Scott on waivers and he promptly cleared them, paving the way for the demotion once Arizona claimed defenseman Kevin Connauton off waivers Wednesday and placed him on the big club.
