Forsberg named assistant manager of Swedish club
Former NHL MVP Peter Forsberg has been hired as the assistant general manager of his hometown Swedish club, Modo.
Modo said Wednesday that Forsberg will work as an adviser for the club in sports issues, helping with marketing and scouting for talent.
Forsberg won two Stanley Cups with the Colorado Avalanche and was the league MVP in 2003, but announced his retirement in February after failing to recover from a lingering foot injury.
He will team up again with childhood friend and former Vancouver Canucks star Markus Naslund, who is Modo's general manager. The two played together for Modo as teenagers before moving to the NHL.
Forsberg said in a statement Wednesday that the new role ''feels perfect'' and that ''it will be fun to build the Modo of the future.''
