Flyers seek to set odd world record

You can set a world record in just about anything — most naked roller coaster riders, most spoons on the human body and heaviest plane pulled by people in wheelchairs are just a few — and now the Philadelphia Flyers want your help setting a record of their own.

If it sounds cool, it’s because it should. Who doesn’t want to be part of a Guinness World Record? But just so you’re aware, it’ll be boring — as boring, perhaps, as watching paint dry. And that’s because you’ll be watching paint dry.

Yes, the Flyers, according to their Facebook page, will attempt on Monday to set the record for most people to simultaneously watch paint dry — a record that, best we can tell, doesn’t currently exist. Here’s more from the Facebook post:

Help us set a new Guinness Book of World Records for the most people to simultaneously watch paint dry when we paint the lines and logos into the ice at Wells Fargo Center this Monday at 11 a.m.!

Be a part of the preparations for the 2013-14 season and bring your cameras! Fans are welcome to enter from the Fan Zone store on the 11th street side of the Wells Fargo Center.

The post also included a Twitter hashtag, which, so far, has featured little engagement outside the Flyers staff. But the few fans who have taken to Twitter to discuss the event sure do seem excited:

Don’t forget, the event Monday starts at 11. Try not to have too much fun.
