Edmonton Oilers Have Officially Named a Team Mascot

The Edmonton Oilers have long been famous as one of three NHL teams that currently does not have a mascot. However, they gave in on Monday and announced that they will have a mascot this coming season.

Thankfully, it’s not Harvey the Hound, who had a run-in with Oilers former bench boss Craig MacTavish. For those of you who need a laugh on your Monday, check this out.

The team’s new and official mascot is a Canadian lynx named Hunter, and he is named after Bill Hunter, the original owner of the team.

With the announcement of a new mascot, the Oilers continue making interesting moves for the good of the franchise. As they currently working toward rebuilding, they are also ushering in their new era at Roger’s Place. The team is turning a new leaf and appears to be working toward not only having a different culture but also working toward new traditions going forward.

Edmonton is currently cutting their training camp roster and preparing to start the preseason Monday. Hunter is expected to make his debut this season at Roger’s Place, and also at multiple community events.

A mascot is a great addition to the organization. Not only will it get members of the community more involved, but it will create a fun environment at games, be great with the kids and add to the new-look Oilers.

With the Oilers naming a mascot, the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers are the two NHL franchises still without a mascot.
