Devils GM Shero: Schneider 'could be in the MVP voting'

New Jersey Devils goaltender Cory Schneider has played an integral role in his team's surprising start to the season.

Schneider's efforts haven't gone unnoticed by general manager Ray Shero, who told Pro Hockey Talk that the 29-year-old netminder could find himself in the running for the Hart Trophy.

While Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane and others may have something to say about that down the road, Schneider has been impressive for the upstart Devils (15-11-4).

Schneider has posted a 13-8-4 mark with one shutout, a 2.17 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage in 2015-16. His win total is six behind Braden Holtby while his goals-against average also trails the Washington Capitals star (1.87).

The numbers hold a bit more water when considering that Schneider often doesn't have much of a cushion with which to work with low-scoring New Jersey.

Selected with the 26th overall pick of the 2004 draft, Schneider has posted a 110-80-33 mark in 237 career appearances with the Vancouver Canucks and Devils.

"Cory could be in the MVP voting for the league."
