Devils' Farnham fined for diving/embellishment

New Jersey Devils forward Bobby Farnham was fined $2,000 by the NHL under supplementary discipline for diving/embellishment, the league announced on Thursday.

Farnham was issued a warning of violating Rule 64 following an incident versus the Vancouver Canucks on Nov. 22 before he was flagged a second time against the Ottawa Senators on Dec. 30. The 26-year-old took issue with the latter embellishment penalty, telling reporters after the contest that he jumped to avoid a hit from Ottawa captain Erik Karlsson.

"I was surprised to be honest with you, very surprised. I thought the penalty was on him and looking at the play, maybe you can't tell from the play, but I thought it was pretty obvious to me that I thought it was the other way around."

Farnham was assessed a minor penalty for embellishment at 14:13 of the second period versus the Senators.

If Farnham is involved in another diving/embellishment incident, his fine will increase by $1,000. A fourth offense would result in coach John Hynes receiving a $2,000 fine.

Farnham has scored five goals and set up another in 24 games this season with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Devils.
