Devils' Elias to miss remainder of preseason, opener 'still to be decided'
New Jersey Devils veteran forward Patrik Elias' availability for the season opener is in question as he nurses a sore right knee.
Devils coach John Hynes told the Bergen Record that the 39-year-old Elias will not play in the preseason, but stopped short of ruling him out in the season opener against the Winnipeg Jets on Oct. 9.
"That's still to be decided," Hynes told the newspaper. "I'll probably know a few days from now a little better."
Elias collected just 13 goals and 21 assists in 67 games last season. A second-round selection of the 1994 draft, Elias is the franchise's all-time leader in tallies (406), assists (611) and points (1,017).
