Devils' Blandisi penalized for flop worthy of World Cup or NBA
The NHL in recent seasons has increased efforts to eliminate embellishment (diving), ramping up fines and calling the penalty on ice more frequently.
On Tuesday night, New Jersey Devils forward Joseph Blandisi showed the world exactly why such rules exist. As you can see in the video above, Flyers defenseman Andrew McDonald certainly earned a penalty with a slash to the back of Blandisi’s calf.
But Blandisi’s subsequent acrobatics landed him in the penalty box and turned a Devils power play into a 4-on-4 situation.
Yeah, that was bad. So bad, in fact, Blandisi fessed up after the game, a 6-3 Flyers win.
Warning for 1st offense. 2nd offense is a fine. Don't know if he's had a warning. Not made public unless 2nd offense https://t.co/4q0340sIK7
