Dallas Stars One Month From Starting A New Journey

Today is September 13th. Dallas Stars regular season hockey returns on October 13th. Just one more month, folks.

The NFL returned this past Sunday. College football returned two weekends back. And to top it all off, Christmas is in 102 days. A lot of exciting things are on the horizon.

But perhaps the most exciting of them all is hockey season. More specifically, the Dallas Stars hockey season. The World Cup of Hockey kicks off this coming Saturday. The Dallas Stars and multiple other teams start training camp next Friday. The preseason starts for Dallas on September 26th.

All of these are exciting in their own specific way, but none compare to the regular season. That’s when things matter. That’s when all of the work and preparation comes to fruition and the Stars begin their fight for the top spot in the Central Division.

We are almost there. In one month (October 13), the Dallas Stars will welcome the Anaheim Ducks to the American Airlines Center for their regular season debut. From there, they will dive into the 2016-17 regular season in hopes of finding similar success to last year.

The upcoming season has a lot of promise attached to it for the Stars. After winning the Central Division and Western Conference regular season titles last season, Dallas advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They eventually fell in a seven game bout with the St. Louis Blues, leaving a lot of fans disappointed but eager for more.

It was the first time since 2008 that any Dallas Stars team had won a playoff series and advanced to any round other than the first. The team had some kinks, but overall was a dominant force.

Now that 2016-17 is here, the Stars have a lot to prove. First off, will they be able to rebalance their defense after losing starters Alex Goligoski, Jason Demers, and Kris Russell? Is their goaltending duo of Kari Lehtonen and Antti Niemi ready to lead this team to a Cup?

There are also questions lying within their special teams units. Will the loss of key players over the summer cripple the Stars’ power play and penalty kill units? And what about Dan Hamhuis and Jiri Hudler? Will the newest Dallas Stars be able to make sizable contributions?

As you can tell, there are a lot of questions that will not be answered until the regular season gets underway. Luckily, that is now just one short month away.

This may feel like the longest month of the year for many Stars fans. But with the World Cup, training camp, and the preseason starting up here in the next 13 days, it should not be too grueling of a battle to face.

One month.
