Dallas Stars Fans Weigh In: Figuring Out What's Eating The Stars

What’s up with the Dallas Stars? We’ve got some hunches- what are yours?

When the Dallas Stars have been down and out, they’ve employed a few different methods to snap out of it. Switching up lines, dishing out healthy scratches, limiting ice time to motivate under-producing players, intense practices.

This time around, it seems like nothing much is doing the trick. Many are saying that it could be time for a coaching switch, or even a personnel overhaul. Either way, it seems to be a frustrating process as the Stars have attempted to get their defense in order, only to have their offense dry up in the process.

On top of that, the Stars have had to put up with a lot of injuries, so naturally they’ve had to call up and add in more inexperienced players night after night. You would think that these players would be supplementing the already-existing offensive efforts, not leading it.

So what causes an offense to throw its hands up and effectively check out, as compared to what it’s been for the Stars in seasons past? Are we looking at chronic burnout? Failure to catch up with the improvement curve of the rest of the league? Have our forwards already given us their best years?

Although it’s safe to say the last one isn’t quite the case, it’s also probably safe to say that the problem is not as simple as an answer to one question. We’ve witnessed this on multiple occasions, as the Stars can win a game triumphantly and go on to fail miserably the next night.

And in one way, it mostly comes down to that: consistency. Lindy Ruff agreed that the main problem in many games is making costly mistakes at the worst moments and only playing well in pockets.

Relying on the goaltender to save a game may work here and there, but the Stars can’t expect one player to carry the team.

It goes for goalkeeping and the same goes for offensive efforts, too. We’ve seen certain players contribute over and over to the Stars’ goal-scoring efforts. Lately, it’s been their lesser-recognized players: Devin Shore, Brett Ritchie, Radek Faksa, and Patrick Eaves. The Stars have been counting less and less on their formerly most dependable players- Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, Jason Spezza.

What causes the tables to turn so abruptly? The tides to turn seemingly without much warning or reason? We certainly have our own opinions, which you’ve picked up on by now for sure. But we want to hear yours.

What do you think is the Dallas Stars’ chief ailment right now, and what should they do to fix it? Let us know below!
