Connor McDavid scores sick goal early in showdown vs. Jack Eichel

Connor McDavid has the kind of talent that can bring a franchise back from the dead, and he reminded us of that Tuesday night, across the ice from another prodigious phenom.

Tuesday night's Oilers–Sabres game in Buffalo matched up the No. 1 and No. 2 picks of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, McDavid and Jack Eichel. The first NHL head-to-head meeting of two of the best prospects in recent memory had the full attention of the league.

Hopefully interested viewers turned in early, as McDavid scored this wicked goal 22 seconds into the contest.

Then, in overtime, after Eichel missed a chance on one end, McDavid blazed down the ice and scored the game winner.

McDavid missed three months with a broken clavicle this season, but he's so good, he might just make the Oilers — who won't make the playoffs for a 10th straight season, the longest drought in the NHL — relevant again.

Dieter Kurtenbach also has soft mitts, but his dangles only last a few hours. He tweets @dkurtenbach.
