Colorado Avalanche: Jared Bednar Already Greatest Coach In Team History

Making a case for Jared Bednar as the greatest coach in Colorado Avalanche history.

We’re just under two weeks from the start of the NHL regular and it’s already fair to ask the question; is Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar the greatest coach in Avalanche history?

The numbers certainly make the case that he is. Have a look:

*Undefeated. No one other coach in Avalanche history can make this claim.

*11 goals in three games. The team only had six goals in six games last year.

*Three wins. That’s more wins than the last two years combined.

*The first preseason win in regulation since September 28, 2013. THREE YEARS! THE AVS WENT THREE YEARS WITHOUT A REGULATION WIN BEFORE BEDNAR!

*Four goals given up in three games. Do you know the last time the Avs had a stretch of only four goals against in three games? Me neither. It’s probably never happened in the history of the NHL, much less Avalanche history.

*Has won three games with three different goalies thus showing that the team doesn’t need a fantastic goalie to bail them out because the system works.

Oh, but you’re one of those people who will say, “Numbers and fancy stats don’t matter.” Fine. Let me hit you with some truth bombs:

More from Mile High Sticking

*Made Gabriel Bourque an assistant captain. The last time a Bourque wore the “A” for the Avs, they won a Stanley Cup. Bednar is already guaranteeing a Cup.

*Has two Bourque’s on the roster. Pretty much guaranteeing that they’re going to win two Cups this year.

*Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon, Semyon Varlamov, and Erik Johnson all left the World Cup of Hockey early because they wanted to be around coach Bednar. Matt Duchene tried to do the same thing, but Sidney Crosby and Carey Price got really jealous and decided to make him stay longer.

*Beat the Minnesota Wild in the first game of the season, thus avenging every single loss ever suffered to the Wild.

*Has yet to play Nate Guenin or Nick Holden or Andrew Bodnarchuk.

*Won a title with a Cleveland team weeks before everyone made a big deal about the Cavaliers saving Cleveland. What does this have to do with Colorado? Well, the Lake Erie Monsters were once the AHL franchise of the Avalanche, and Colorado and Cleveland both start with “C”

Convinced yet? No, you’re not ready to join the Bednar Bus? Maybe you’re saying, “he’s never won a Stanley Cup.” Well, it’s impossible to win a Stanley Cup in the 2016-2017 season because I have it on good authority that the NHL is going to rename the Stanley Cup to the Bednar Belt. So, basically, Stanley Cup titles aren’t relevant anymore and coaches will now be judged on how many Bednar Belts that win. Spoiler: Jared Bednar doesn’t lose the Bednar Belt.

Smart Avalanche fans see that Bednar is already the greatest coach to ever step foot inside the Pepsi Center. Those who have yet to come around, we’ll have plenty of room for you on the Bednar Bandwagon, which is different from the Bednar Bus.
