Christie teams up with NHL's Devils against opioid addiction

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) Gov. Chris Christie has enlisted the New Jersey Devils to help continue his push against opioid addiction.

The Devils on Friday hosted Christie and about 50 middle school students from across the state at the Prudential Center in Newark where Christie helped administer an anti-drug pledge to the students.

The visit was part of a Christie effort to include more drug addiction education in the curriculum.

The Republican governor is using his final year in office to combat the state's opioid crisis, which claimed about 1,600 lives in 2015. He was also recently tasked with leading a White House commission on the issue.

He says one of the best ways to fight drug abuse is before it starts.
