Carolina Hurricanes Veteran Leadership

The Carolina Hurricanes have a lot of leaders in the Alternate Captains. They also possess veteran experience.

The upcoming hockey season is upon us. There has been much speculation as to what will happen and why.

However not much has been said about anyone’s opinions of them or what we think may happen this season. Most of us read what is reported but never tell our opinions.

With the Captaincy spot open, it could go two ways. General Manager Ron Francis could start the season with all Alternate Captains or we could start with one official Captain.

While we are all used to a Captain, GMRF said “no urgency in picking a captain. Said may have assistants going into season. No clearcut guy to put ‘C” on.”

It will be weird to start the season with all Alternates. There are a few that could make Captain.

Jordan Staal

I’ve touched base on if Jordan Staal will be named the next Captain. He has the experience of an alternate. He’s had the A for eight straight seasons.

Despite him being Eric’s younger brother, I believe Jordan has what it takes to be a great leader. He has the playoff and Stanley Cup experience to know what the Carolina Hurricanes need to do this season.

Justin Faulk

While Justin Faulk is a defenseman, there is no reason why he isn’t Captain material. Last season he had a career high of 16 goals.

He knows when he is needed to fight and spark his team. Being an offensive defenseman, he plays a physical game.

While he has only been an alternate captain for one season, I could see Faulk being named captain.

“Hainsey has got a real good personality to him in being calm, cool and collected. He communicates on the bench and is very intelligent about the game. I think he can help the young guys and also be a good liason between the players and coaches.”-Bill Peters

Ron Hainsey

Although he wasn’t a full alternate last season, Hainsey still has the ability to lead and step up if called upon.

Hainsey served as an alternate in his one tenure as a Atlanta Thrasher.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Carolina Hurricanes at least start the season with three to four alternates.
