Canadiens D Emelin fined $5,000 by NHL for butt end

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin has been fined $5,000 by the NHL for hitting Vancouver Canucks forward Pascal Pelletier with the butt end of his stick.

No penalty was called on the play, which occurred at 11:35 of the second period Thursday night in Montreal.

The league's department of player safety announced Emelin's punishment Friday night.
