Buffalo Sabres Game Day: Three Ways Not To Blow It Against The Lightning

The Buffalo Sabres are going to need all hands on deck if they want to break a six-game winless streak tonight.

Imagine you are the Buffalo Sabres – terrifying right now, I know!  But play along.

Now, imagine you were suffering through a six-game winless streak that you wanted desperately stop, and had a cushy four-game homestand coming up.

Then, imagine that the first team you would face on this homestand would be the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Okay – you can stop imagining now, because we’re not trying to permanently damage you.  The point is, the Sabres would have had their work cut out for them tonight even if they were healthy.  As it stands, this is one of those games you almost wish the NHL would call off, since it could get ugly!

Nevertheless, here are my Three Ways The Buffalo Sabres Can Not Blow It for their match up with the 7th-in-the-East Tampa Bay Lightning:

1. Score on the power play

I probably could have just typed the word “score,” right?  Because that is something the Buffalo Sabres currently do not do well.  Or at all.  But the Sabres recently called up defenseman Taylor Fedun from Rochester specifically because of his success on the power play with the Rochester Amerks, so let’s take some baby steps!

Score when you are a man up – good things happen!

2. Stop committing stupid penalties.

I swear, if I see another Too Many Men On The Ice penalty, a small child might get hurt.

Knock that crap off.

3. Man up

Look: the team is in crisis mode.  Sitting at 26th overall in the NHL, with fans crying for GM Tim Murray’s head and/or throwing tank talk out there, it’s time for the professionals on this team to go into Superman mode.  Kyle Okposo, Sam Reinhart, Rasmus Ristolainen, Matt Moulson, Robin Lehnere – I understand a few of those guys are young, but if you’re playing full time in the NHL, you are expected to get results.

We’re looking for a hero, boys – who’s ready?

As much as it would be nice to see the Buffalo Sabres get off the schneid tonight, it’s certainly a tall task.  Let’s hope for the best, and look for our Fan Chatter addition in a bit!
