Bruins' Tim Thomas and Andrew Ference have surgery
Bruins goalie Tim Thomas and defenseman Andrew Ference have undergone surgery.
Boston general manager Peter Chiarelli made the announcements Saturday, and added that forward Vladimir Sobotka would have an operation Tuesday to stabilize his left shoulder.
Thomas, who began the season as the starter but didn't play in the postseason after losing his job to Tuukka Rask, had surgery for a torn labrum in his left hip. He is expected to need three to four months to recover. Ference had hernia surgery with an expected recovery time of two months.
The Bruins were eliminated from the Eastern Conference semifinals on May 14 in a 4-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, who came back from 3-0 deficits in that game and in the series to advance.
