Bruins have fun with Tebow news
Veteran Boston Bruins forward Shawn Thornton turned a question about holdout goalie Tim Thomas into a Tim Tebow reference.
“You ask about Timmy almost as much you ask about that guy who signed in New England,” Thornton joked during the Stanley Cup Final Media Day at the United Center on Tuesday.
Yes, Tim Tebow — who signed with the New England Patriots on Monday — was a topic of conversation a day before the Stanley Cup Final is set to begin here. Tebow, the former Heisman Trophy winner cut by the New York Jets after last season, dominated play among the various sports mediums in Boston even as the Bruins aim to win their second Stanley Cup in three years.
“I’m sure it won’t be the last time there’s a media frenzy about him,” Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference said. “That’s all right. That goes with the territory.”
Forward Milan Lucic had some fun with the all the Tebow talk.
“It’s great,” Lucic said as reported by New York Daily News writer Pat Leonard on Twitter. “I’m sure he’s happy to be on an NFL team again. Hopefully he’ll be cheering for the Bruins in the Stanley Cup Finals.”
