Bruins D Dennis Seidenberg hits milestone in recovery from back surgery

The Bruins enjoyed some good news Thursday regarding defenseman Dennis Seidenberg. The 34-year-old skated in practice with his teammates Thursday for the first time since undergoing back surgery on Sept. 24.

Seidenberg is expected to return sometime around Thanksgiving, but his return to practice is a good sign that the defenseman is on track with his recovery process. Still, coach Claude Julien warned that Seidenberg has a long way to go before he is back in game shape.

"For him, it was more to get him a little bit more encouraged by being with other players out there," Julien told reporters of Seidenberg's return to practice. "He just did the line drills and the puck-moving part of it. He still has a ways to go; he definitely can’t take any contact, but just the fact that he’s able to be out there with us is definitely encouraging for him."

The news is also encouraging for a Bruins defense which has allowed the third-most goals against per game in the NHL so far this season.
