Brad Marchand sends teammates to space in new Bruins cartoon series (VIDEO)

The Boston Bruins are entering the cartoon business, as the NHL team launched a new animated version of "The Bear & the Gang" short films to run on their new children's television series called "Bruins Academy". The cartoons feature voiceovers from Bruins players including Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, Tuukka Rask, David Pastrnak and anthem singer Rene Rencourt.

The first episode of the series debuted on Sunday with Chara, Marchand and Pastrnak heading to space camp. Marchand's desire to touch everything sends the Bruins into space.

The cartoons for the series are created by Arnold Worldwide with animation from J.J. Sedelmaier, the animator responsible for the "TV Funhouse" series on "Saturday Night Live". The first episode of the series is pretty funny, but the message about hand-washing seems only tangentially connected to the cartoon itself.

These cartoons are an interesting new venture for the team, and having the players record the voiceovers is a nice touch.
