Blackhawks Kane, Toews could get statue one day

Both Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane have already become Chicago Blackhawks legends, and one day both could be immortalized with a statue outside United Center.

Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz discussed the possibility with the Chicago Tribune editorial board.

"In the long run, we'll see if we get a couple of more statues,” Wirtz said while discussing the $84 million contract extensions for Kane and Toews that begin this season. “I think that they're quality individuals. They're never satisfied. They're great leaders, and I think they're terrific for the city. As the eight-year contracts go on, I think we'll see they're worth every penny."

The two Blackhawks would join Michael Jordan, Stan Mikita and Bobby Hull with statues outside the arena.

Both Toews and Kane have played huge parts in the Blackhawks' three Stanley Cup wins over the past six years. With their recent mega-contracts, both are a virtually guaranteed to be Blackhawks for their whole careers.

The statues of Mikita and Hull were placed outside of United Center on Oct. 22, 2011, 50 years after they helped the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup.

Jordan had his statue placed outside the arena on Nov. 1, 1994. Jordan won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls.
