Avalanche's Alex Tanguay out for an 'extended period' with knee injury
Alex Tanguay, who suffered a knee injury in Friday's game against the New York Rangers, will be out of the line up for quite some time.
According to Mike Chambers of The Denver Post, general manager Joe Sakic said that Tanguay will be out for an "extended period" of time.
The Avalanche called up Andreas Martinsen to replace the injured forward.
In seven games with the San Antonio Rampage in the AHL, Martinsen has a single goal so far this season. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound 25-year-old should bring a physical presence to the Avalanche.
Tanguay, 35, will be severely missed within the Avalanche lineup. While Tanguay, who had 22 goals last season, has just two so far in this year's campaign, he provides a steady leadership presence within a young Avalanche core.
The Avalanche face off against the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday night.
