Avalanche, onetime GM Greg Sherman part ways
DENVER (AP) Greg Sherman and the Colorado Avalanche have parted ways after the onetime general manager spent two decades with the company.
Sherman spent five seasons as general manager of the Avalanche before Joe Sakic's promotion in 2014. Sherman's title was assistant general manager in 2014-15 and senior vice president of business and team operations last season. He also represented Colorado at league meetings in a role as alternate governor.
In all, Sherman spent 14 seasons in the front office and 20 with the organization.
The Avs are coming off a year in which they missed the playoffs for a second straight season. The team tied a franchise-best mark with 52 wins during coach Patrick Roy's first season in charge in 2013-14.
