Arizona Coyotes Join Diamondbacks For Coyotes Night
The Arizona Coyotes joined the Arizona Diamondbacks for “Coyotes Night” on Friday. Captain Shane Doan and goaltender Mike Smith attended and took part in the festivities.
On Friday night, the Arizona Coyotes were celebrated by the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field for “Coyotes Night”.
There were several representatives from the Yotes on hand, including General Manager John Chayka, Captain Shane Doan, and goaltender Mike Smith. Howler also joined the crew for some fun.
The Diamondbacks showcased and integrated many of the Coyotes’ game ops bells and whistles into the game, including the Coyotes’ goal song “Howlin’ For You” being played after each Dbacks homer.
Doan and Smith were very prominent on the field and in the Fox Sports broadcast of the contest.
The pair participated in batting practice prior to the game, producing a healthy amount of hi-jinks.
At one point Mike Smith checks Shane Doan’s bat and says “I wanna make sure it’s not corked”.
Doan responds, “I got an aluminum one and painted (it),” amid laughs.

Smitty cranked a line drive home run to left field in the batting practice session, much to the captain’s chagrin.
“My power isn’t what it needs to be,” Doan said with a smile. “I’m very similar to Ichiro. I just kind of smack the ball out (of the infield) and try to steal bases. That’s what I’m known for… ‘Smitty’ hit one out and I didn’t so I’m never going to hear the end of it.”

Shane Doan had the opportunity to throw out the first pitch and he did not disappoint.
He really can do it all. The Captain tosses a perfect first pitch on #CoyotesNight! pic.twitter.com/pPK8SeIzf0

I don’t think we expected anything less.
To be honest, though, Mike Smith’s sons stole the show a little bit.

The kid’s have a flow that Lane Lambert and Jaromir Jagr would be proud of.
While the players provided some entertainment value, the best remark of the night might have come from Coyotes’ social media.

Well played.
Unfortunately, the Dbacks did fall to the Giants in 12 innings, 7-6.
It didn’t devalue the experience, and only strengthened the desire for hockey’s return next month.
