Anderson makes 40 saves, Senators beat Canadiens 5-2

Craig Anderson made 40 saves, Mark Stone and Cody Ceci each had a goal and two assists and the visiting Ottawa Senators beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-2 in an exhibition game Thursday night.

Mike Hoffman, Clarke MacArthur and Patrick Wiercioch also scored for Ottawa.

Andrei Markov and Nathan Beaulieu scored for Montreal, and Carey Price made 16 saves.

Montreal's Max Pacioretty, returning earlier than expected from a knee injury, wore the `C' for the first time at the Bell Centre since being named captain at the start of training camp.

The teams will meet again Saturday night in Ottawa.

DUCKS' GIBSON, KHUDOBIN SHUT OUT AVS

At Anaheim, California, John Gibson made 20 saves in the first period and Anton Khudobin stopped 11 in the third in the Ducks' 3-0 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.

Shawn Horcoff and Mike Santorelli scored in a 1:49 span early in the first period, and Carl Hagelin added an empty-net goal in the third.

Semyon Varlamov made 30 saves for Colorado.

ALLEN BACKSTOPS BLUES

At St. Louis, Jake Allen made 20 saves to help the Blues beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2.

Dmitrij Jaskin, Troy Brouwer, Jori Lehtera, Kevin Shattenkirk and Kyle Brodziak scored for St. Louis.

Dennis Rasmussen and Brandon Mashinter scored for Chicago, and Scott Darling made 19 saves.

After regulation, the teams played a mandatory 3-on-3 overtime practice session. Neither team scored.

WILD ROUT SABRES

At St. Paul, Minnesota, Jason Zucker, Tyler Graovac each had a goal and an assist in the Wild's 6-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.

Zach Parise, Nino Niederreiter, Zac Dalpe and Thomas Vanek also scored, and Charlie Coyle and Mikko Koivu each had two assists. Devan Dubnyk made 10 saves.

Tim Schaller scored for Buffalo, and Chad Johnson made 36 saves.

BROWN LIFTS LIGHTNING PAST STARS

At Tampa, Florida, J.T. Brown broke a tie with 4:32 left, and Ben Bishop made 23 saves in the Lightning's 3-2 victory over the Dallas Stars.

Nikita Kucherov and Valtteri Filppula also scored for Tampa Bay.

Curtis McKenzie and Valeri Nichushkin scored for Dallas, and Karin Lehtonen made 21 saves.

BO HORVAT SCORES TWICE, CANUCKS BEAT OILERS

At Edmonton, Alberta, Bo Horvat had two goals and an assist, Sven Baertschi added four assists and the Vancouver Canucks spoiled the Oilers' perfect preseason record with a 5-2 victory.

Jake Virtanen had goal and two assists, Ben Hutton and Yannick Weber also scored, and Jacob Markstrom made 21 saves.

Taylor Hall and Nail Yakupov scored for Edmonton, and Cam Talbot made 24 saves. The Oilers dropped to 6-1-0.

SCHEIFELE SCORES TWICE, JETS TOP FLAMES

At Winnipeg, Manitoba, Mark Scheifele scored twice, and Michael Hutchinson made 32 saves in the Jets' 3-1 victory over the Calgary Flames.

Nikolaj Ehlers also scored for the Jets.

Deryk Engelland scored for Calgary, and Joni Ortio made 23 saves.

The teams will wrap up the preseason Saturday night in Calgary.
