A KHL player was suspended for attacking a referee

Being a hockey referee in Russia seems to be a pretty dangerous gig. We've already seen one get punched in the face accidentally, another take a stick to the head, and now this.

A KHL ref was recently "attacked" by Viktor Alexandrov, a forward for Admiral Vladivostok. Take a look:

At first, it doesn't seem like much, but it appears that Alexandrov may have butt-ended the ref in the groin region as he skated past. The official was clearly displeased and threw the Admiral forward out of the game. In addition, Alexandrov will have to serve a five-game ban to think about his unnecessary little cheap shot.

The 30-year-old Alexandrov was drafted 83rd overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2004, but he never signed a contract and remained in Russia. It looks like NHL referees may have dodged a bullet (or the butt-end of a stick) there.
