Whisenhunt puzzled by tight end's injury
The last time Tennessee Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt saw Taylor Thompson, the tight end seemed healthy and recovered from a season-ending knee injury suffered in Week 3 last year. This week, that appears not to be the case. Thompson is sitting out of Tennessee's mandatory minicamp this week after saying he continue to have issues with his knee. That came as news Whisenhunt.
"To be honest with you, I don't know what to tell you,'' Whisenhunt said, via Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. "When (Taylor) left here, however many weeks ago, he was healthy. We communicated, he said he was fine, no issues, other than some personal matters."
The 25-year-old Thompson missed a large portion of the team's voluntary offseason workouts and said he spent part of that time getting a second opinion on his knee. He then arrived late to the team's minicamp this week, missing his scheduled physical on Monday.
"He shows up, says there's something wrong with his knee, and I have no idea what he is talking about,'' Whisenhunt said. "We got the physical on him, so I don't know. We're in the stage of trying to find out what is going on. … But the communication I had with him after he left, there was no mention of the knee. He practiced fine (earlier in the offseason) … and had no complaints. I don't know what to tell you at this point."
Thompson didn't speak with reporters Wednesday, but said Tuesday he's waiting to hear more from doctors before deciding his next move. He was a fifth-round pick by the Titans in 2012.
